Arsenal win the Community Shield!

Penalties: Arsenal 4 Manchester City 1

Vieira makes absolutely no mistake, smashing the ball into the top corner and ensuring Arsenal triumph on the day. A remarkable sting in the tale.

Ramsdale saves Rodri’s penalty!

Penalties: Arsenal 3 Manchester City 1

It’s a poor penalty and comfortably saved by the Arsenal goalkeeper. Arsenal are one kick away from winning the Community Shield, something that did not seem plausible deep into stoppage time.

Saka makes it 3-1

The England star just rolls it home. The pressure is on City now.

Bernardo scores!

Penalties: Arsenal 2 Manchester City 1

It’s curled into the corner and City are off the mark

Trossard makes no mistake

It’s in the bottom corner and Arsenal take control of the shootout.

De Bruyne hits the bar!

City miss their first penalty!

Odegaard makes no mistake

The keeper is sent the wrong way and Arsenal lead in the shootout.

Arsenal equalise at the death!

Would you believe it! Arsenal win a corner and City struggle to clear their lines. Trossard shoots and the ball deflects wickedly off Akanji and into the net. They left it late but it’s going to penalties!

Both players are fit enough to play on

Walker and Partey are continuing and this half will probably end up with around 12 minutes of added time.

Walker and Partey go down

We might have a lot more than eight minutes after a nasty clash of heads sees both players stay down for a while.

That’s a boost for Arsenal, can they get a goal and take this to penalties?

Two great saves from Ramsdale in quick succession

83′ Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

Foden thinks he’s doubled City’s lead but the Arsenal keeper thwarts him from point blank range.

From the resultant corner, Rodri almost catches Ramsdale out with a brilliant diving header but it’s a superb save down low to his right.

Arsenal do not look like taking this to penalties at the moment.

City lead!

There haven’t been too many chances in this game and it was always going to take something special to break the deadlock and that’s precisely what we’ve just witnessed.

Cole Palmer, who hoped for more opportunities this season, bends one into the top corner with his left foot from the edge of the box. A truly brilliant finish.

Double substitution for Arsenal

Leandro Trossard replaces Gabriel Martinelli while Kieran Tierney is on for Jurrien Timber.

Palmer with a chance

70′ Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

Excellent work from Foden culminating with the ball reaching Palmer on the right hand side of the box. His shot is deflected over the bar by Timber but that was a real chance for the youngster.

Haaland substituted

64′ Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

Cole Palmer and Kevin De Bruyne replace Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic. The big Norwegian has now gone six games without a goal. Has he lost it? Well, no, obviously not.

City make a change

58′ Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

Phil Foden replaces Jack Grealish.

Stones with the first real chance of the half

52′ Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

Alvarez swings a corner in from the far side and Stones outjumps the defenders and powerfully heads the ball towards goal but it’s smartly saved by Ramsdale.

City seeing lots of the ball

50′ Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

No changes for either side at half time.

A subdued start to the half with City, once again, having the lion’s share of possession.

Half time: Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

There really isn’t a lot in it what with City dominating the early exchanges but Arsenal really growing into the game as the half wore on.

A word too for Kyle Walker, who captains his side despite continued interest from Bayern Munich. Guardiola is very keen to keep the defender at the club despite the player’s frustration with a lack of minutes last season.
